One of the most common questions we hear at Dr Niru Azim Aesthetics is: "What's the difference between Botox and fillers?" While both are injectable treatments, they work in completely different ways and treat different concerns.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections (commonly called Botox)
Anti-wrinkle injections use a purified protein to temporarily relax specific facial muscles. When these muscles relax, the skin above them smooths out, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Best for: Dynamic wrinkles — the lines that appear when you move your face, such as forehead lines, frown lines (between the eyebrows), and crow's feet.
How long do they last? Typically 3-4 months.
Recovery: No downtime. You can return to normal activities immediately.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid — a substance naturally found in your skin — to add volume, smooth deep lines, and enhance facial contours. They physically fill the area where they're injected.
Best for: Static lines (visible even at rest), volume loss in the cheeks or temples, enhancing the lips or jawline, and smoothing nasolabial folds.
How long do they last? 6-18 months depending on the area and product used.
Recovery: Mild swelling for 24-48 hours is normal.
Can You Have Both?
Absolutely. Many patients benefit from a combination approach — anti-wrinkle injections to smooth the upper face and fillers to restore volume in the mid and lower face. During your consultation, Dr Niru will assess your concerns and recommend the best approach for natural-looking results.
The Bottom Line
Anti-wrinkle injections relax muscles to smooth wrinkles. Fillers add volume and shape. Both are safe, effective, and performed in under 30 minutes. The best way to determine which treatment is right for you is to book a free consultation.
