Realistic Expectations
Profhilo Before & After: The Honest Timeline
What Profhilo actually looks like — week by week — from your first session to your six-month maintenance window. Written by a GDC-registered dental surgeon who performs Profhilo every week.
The honest truth about Profhilo before-and-after
Most clinics show you dramatic before-and-after photos. We're going to be honest: Profhilo's changes are subtle by design. It's a bio-remodelling treatment that improves your skin's quality (glow, hydration, smoothness, mild laxity) — not a filler that adds volume.
That means side-by-side photos show skin that looks healthier, more reflective, more even-toned. They do notshow plumper cheeks, fuller lips, or sharper jawline. If that's what you're after, you want filler — not Profhilo. Read our Profhilo treatment page for the full overview.
Profhilo results week by week
Day 0 — Treatment day
How it looks
Skin looks normal pre-treatment. Five small bumps appear at injection points immediately after — gone within hours.
How it feels
Mild tenderness at injection points. Easy to cover with concealer if needed.
In photos
Tiny bumps for 4-12 hours. Skin glow not yet visible.
Day 1-3
How it looks
Bumps gone by day 1. Some patients see a very subtle plumping early. Mild bruising at injection sites possible.
How it feels
Skin feels more hydrated than usual.
In photos
Subtle hydration improvement. No obvious 'before vs after' yet.
Week 1-2
How it looks
Skin starts feeling distinctly more 'cushioned' and bouncy. Friends may comment you look refreshed.
How it feels
Skin tone smoother. Foundation sits better.
In photos
Subtle but present. Photographs slightly differently to before.
Week 4 — Second session
How it looks
First session results visible. Second session compounds the bio-remodelling effect.
How it feels
Confidence building. The 'lit from within' look starts to develop.
In photos
Clearly different to baseline. Skin reflects light better.
Week 6-8 — Peak result
How it looks
Full Profhilo effect visible. Skin appears glossier, more even, fine lines softened.
How it feels
Most patients say 'I didn't realise how dehydrated my skin looked before.'
In photos
Side-by-side photos at this stage typically show clear improvement in skin quality (not volume — Profhilo doesn't add volume).
Month 3-4
How it looks
Result well established and consistent. Maintenance routine settled.
How it feels
Skin feels like a healthier version of itself.
In photos
Stable improvement. Many patients schedule their next session for month 6.
Month 6 — Maintenance window
How it looks
Initial result starting to fade subtly. Time for a single maintenance session.
How it feels
Skin still better than baseline but noticeably less plump than at week 8.
In photos
Time to book next Profhilo session to keep results consistent.

How soon after Profhilo will I see before-and-after results?+
Initial subtle plumping at week 1-2. Real visible 'before vs after' difference at week 6-8 (after both sessions of the initial course). Peak result around week 8.
What does Profhilo actually look like in before-and-after photos?+
It's subtle by design. Profhilo improves skin QUALITY — glow, hydration, smoothness, mild laxity — not volume. So before-and-after shots show skin that looks healthier, more reflective, and softer; they do not show 'plumper cheeks' or 'fuller lips'. If you want volume change, you need filler instead.
Will I see dramatic before-and-after results?+
Honest answer: no — not in the way fillers do. Profhilo's strength is that the change is subtle enough that no one can point at what you've had done. People say 'you look really well' rather than 'you look done.' If you want dramatic change, Profhilo is not the right treatment.
Why don't you show patient before-and-after photos here?+
Because we won't share patient photos without explicit written consent for that specific use. We're collecting consents from current patients — the photos will appear on this page when we have them. Until then, this guide tells you exactly what to expect at each stage.
How long does the before-and-after result last?+
Around 6 months for most patients. After that, a single maintenance session restores the result. Without maintenance, skin gradually returns to its pre-Profhilo state over 9-12 months.
How much does Profhilo cost in the UK?+
Typically £250-£350 per session in the UK, with most clinics charging £450-£600 for the standard two-session starting course. At The Azim Clinic, Appledore (Kent), the course is from £450 (two sessions, four weeks apart). Maintenance from £250 every six months.
Is Profhilo worth the money?+
For the right patient, yes — but it is not a wonder treatment. Worth it if your main concern is skin quality (hydration, glow, mild laxity, fine crepiness). Not worth it if your main concern is volume loss or deep wrinkles — those need filler or anti-wrinkle, not Profhilo. The honest version: Profhilo earns its money on patients who want a 'natural refresh', not a 'transformation'.
Is 60 too old for Profhilo?+
No. Profhilo is well-suited to patients in their 60s, especially as oestrogen-related skin thinning accelerates. Realistic expectation: improvement of texture and tone, not reversal of significant skin laxity. Often combined with dermal filler for structural restoration where age has caused volume loss.
Is there a downside to Profhilo?+
Three honest downsides. (1) The result is subtle — patients expecting visible transformation are usually disappointed. (2) It's a recurring cost — six-monthly maintenance is part of the deal. (3) Five tiny bumps appear at the injection sites for 24-48 hours, occasionally with mild bruising.
What age is best for Profhilo?+
Most clinicians start patients on Profhilo from mid-30s onward, when oestrogen-driven skin changes begin. There is no upper age limit. Patients in their 20s rarely benefit — your natural hyaluronic acid is already abundant.
How often do you need Profhilo?+
Initial course: two sessions four weeks apart. Maintenance: a single top-up session every six months. Some patients stretch to nine months between top-ups; very few benefit from going longer.
