Pillar Guide

The Pre-Wedding Skin Timeline

A realistic 12-month plan to help you walk down the aisle looking like the best version of yourself — without anyone being able to point at what you've had done. Written by a GDC-registered dental surgeon who works with brides every season.

The single biggest mistake brides make with their skin is trying something new in the final month. Wedding day is not the time to discover you bruise badly with filler, or that your skin reacts to a new acid. Everything below is built around two principles: start early and don't disrupt at the end.

This guide is written for any wedding (or other big event — the same timeline applies for milestones, photoshoots and graduations). The timeline assumes you have 12 months. If you have less, scale down: at 6 months you'd skip the foundation phase; at 3 months you're in the “refine” window only; at 1 month you're in protect mode.

12 months out

Foundation

  • Book a free consultation to design your personal pre-wedding plan
  • Start daily SPF 30+ — non-negotiable from this point on
  • Begin (or rebuild) your skincare routine: cleanse, treat, protect
  • Trial any treatments you're new to (anti-wrinkle, fillers) so you know how you respond
  • Book regular sleep — 7-8 hours, consistent times

6 months out

Build skin quality

  • Start your Profhilo course (2 sessions, 4 weeks apart)
  • Consider Obagi Nu-Derm if you have pigmentation, sun damage or acne scarring
  • Add a retinoid at night if your skin tolerates it (introduce slowly)
  • Plan any larger filler decisions — discuss with Dr Niru well in advance
  • Book your hair, makeup, and skin trial appointments now if you haven't

3 months out

Refine and adjust

  • Lip filler if you've decided you want it — gives 6-8 weeks to settle and adjust
  • Anti-wrinkle injections if you're an established patient — 8-week refresh
  • Skin booster session if you're using them
  • Final pigmentation touch-ups (Obagi, gentle peels)
  • Stop trying any new products from this point

6-8 weeks out

Finishing touches

  • Profhilo maintenance session for that wedding-day glow
  • Anti-wrinkle top-up if needed (timing this perfectly = full effect on the day)
  • Last possible window for new lip filler with full settling time
  • Schedule extra sleep — start banking rest now
  • Confirm hair and makeup trials done; lock in final looks

4 weeks out

Don't disrupt

  • No new injectables from this point on
  • Stick to your established skincare routine — no changes
  • Increase water intake; reduce alcohol
  • Last hair colour service if applicable
  • Final dermaplaning or facial if part of your routine

1 week out

Protect

  • No facials, peels, or new products
  • Limit alcohol significantly — bloating and dehydration show on skin
  • Reduce salt intake (face/hand puffiness)
  • Sleep upright with extra pillow if you tend to wake puffy
  • Hydration: 2-2.5L water daily, herbal teas, avoid dehydrating drinks

24 hours before

Wedding-day prep

  • Gentle cleanse, hydrating mask if your skin tolerates it
  • Light, lean dinner — no heavy salt, no spice surprises
  • Limit alcohol
  • Phone off by a reasonable hour — sleep is the single biggest skin factor for tomorrow
  • Set out everything you need so you're not rushing in the morning

The Four Things That Actually Matter Most

Before any treatment plan, these four foundations do more for your wedding-day skin than any single procedure:

  • Daily SPF 30+ — the single highest-ROI thing you'll ever do for your skin. Compounds over months.
  • Sleep — 7-8 hours, consistent times. Cortisol from poor sleep ages skin and causes inflammation.
  • Hydration — 2-2.5L of water daily. Skin cells you can see today were formed weeks ago.
  • Stress management — chronic stress shows on skin within weeks. Walking, breathing, time off.

No injectable, peel, or laser will compensate for missing these.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start aesthetic treatments before my wedding?+

12 months out for major changes like Profhilo or skincare programmes; 3-6 months out for filler if you're new to it; never less than 4 weeks out for any new injectable.

Should I have anti-wrinkle injections before my wedding?+

If you're already an established patient, yes — top up 4-6 weeks before. If you're new to anti-wrinkle, the wedding is not the time to start; trial it 6+ months before so you know how your body responds.

How long before the wedding should I have lip filler?+

Minimum 6-8 weeks. Ideally 3 months. Filler needs time to settle, swelling can be unpredictable for new patients, and you want time for any small adjustment if needed.

What's the most important thing for wedding-day skin?+

Daily SPF for 12 months. Sleep. Hydration. Consistent skincare. These four things outperform any single treatment for actual wedding-day glow.

Should I have Profhilo before my wedding?+

Yes — it's an excellent pre-wedding treatment. Have your initial two-session course around 4-6 months before the wedding, then a maintenance session 6-8 weeks before. The result is that 'lit from within' glow without anyone being able to point at what you've had done.

Can I have a chemical peel before my wedding?+

Yes, but timing is critical. Start a peel programme 3-6 months before. Stop strong peels at least 3 weeks before the wedding to avoid post-treatment redness or visible peeling on the day.

What should I avoid in the final week before the wedding?+

Any new product, treatment, or injection. Heavy alcohol. Excessive salt. Late nights. Sun exposure without SPF. These are the controllable things that affect day-of skin.
