How Long After Anti-Wrinkle Injections Can I Exercise?

One of the most common questions we get after anti-wrinkle treatment is: when can I get back to the gym? Here's the definitive answer — and the science behind it.

The Short Answer

Wait at least 24 hours before any strenuous exercise. Light walking is fine, but no gym, running, yoga, CrossFit, or anything that raises your heart rate significantly.

Why Wait 24 Hours?

There are three reasons we ask you to avoid exercise immediately after treatment:

1. The product needs to settle. Anti-wrinkle injections work by blocking signals from nerves to specific facial muscles. The product needs a few hours to bind to its target before it's secure in place. Exercise increases circulation and can cause the product to migrate away from the intended area — meaning your results might be uneven or less effective.

2. Increased blood flow causes bruising. Strenuous exercise raises your blood pressure and sends more blood to the injection sites. This can make any minor bruising much worse. It's the same reason we recommend avoiding alcohol for 24 hours.

3. Sweat and skincare issues. Sweating heavily in the first 24 hours can increase the risk of infection at injection sites, which are tiny open wounds. Going straight from treatment to a hot yoga class is not ideal.

What About Light Exercise?

Gentle walking, easy stretching, and normal daily activities are fine. You don't need to be bed-bound. But anything that makes you sweat or gets your heart rate significantly elevated should wait.

The Full Post-Treatment Exercise Timeline

| When | What you can do | |------|-----------------| | Immediately | Normal daily activities, gentle walking | | First 24 hours | Avoid: gym, running, yoga, HIIT, sauna, steam room | | 24-48 hours | Light exercise OK; still avoid saunas and extreme heat | | 72+ hours | All normal exercise resumed |

What If You Exercise Too Soon?

If you hit the gym a few hours after treatment, you probably won't ruin your results entirely — but you might:

  • Experience more bruising than necessary
  • Have slightly uneven results
  • Find results don't last as long as they should

It's not catastrophic, but it's an easy mistake to avoid.

Other 24-Hour Rules

Alongside no exercise, avoid these in the first 24 hours:

  • Alcohol (thins the blood, worsens bruising)
  • Saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga
  • Lying flat (sleep with an extra pillow)
  • Massaging or pressing the treated area
  • Makeup (if possible)

Planning Your Treatment Around Your Gym Routine

If you work out 5 days a week, plan your treatment for a rest day — ideally Friday evening so you have the weekend to recover. By Monday, you're back to normal.
