Skin booster aftercare is mostly about helping the small injection points heal cleanly and giving the hyaluronic acid time to integrate. None of it is dramatic — but doing it right gets you a better, faster result. Here's the complete aftercare guide.

Right After Treatment

You'll leave the clinic with small raised bumps at each injection point — usually a grid of 5-10 across each treatment area. They look more dramatic than they feel.

Immediate aftercare: - Don't touch or massage the area - Cool the area gently if it feels warm (no ice directly on skin) - Stay upright for 4 hours — don't lie down flat - No makeup, lotion, or skincare for 12-24 hours

Day 1 (Treatment Day)

DO: - Drink plenty of water - Take paracetamol if you need it for tenderness - Eat normally - Sleep on your back if you can

AVOID: - Touching your face beyond gentle cleansing - Makeup of any kind - Hot drinks against the cheeks/lips - Hot showers (warm is fine) - Alcohol - Strenuous exercise - Lying flat or face-down

Day 2

The bumps should be visibly smaller. Mild bruising at some injection points is normal.

DO: - Resume gentle skincare with fragrance-free, non-acidic products - Apply SPF 30+ if going outside - Sleep on your back if comfortable

AVOID: - Active skincare ingredients (retinol, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C) - Saunas, steam rooms, hot baths - Intense exercise - Facial massage or rolling

Day 3-7

Most visible signs should be gone by day 3. By day 7 your skin will look normal — but the actual benefits are still building.

DO: - Resume your normal skincare routine - Apply SPF daily (this is the single most important long-term step) - Resume normal exercise from day 4 onwards - Stay well hydrated

STILL AVOID (until day 7): - Strong chemical peels - Microdermabrasion - Other facial treatments - Dental work where possible (especially if treatment was around the mouth)

Week 2-6 — Results Building

This is when the magic happens. Your skin starts feeling more hydrated, looking more glossy, and fine lines softening.

You may have a second session at the 2-4 week mark depending on the protocol Dr Niru recommends. The second session compounds the first.

DO: - Maintain your skincare routine - Daily SPF, no exceptions - Stay hydrated - Get good sleep

AVOID: - Skipping the second session if you've booked a course - Booking competing treatments in the same area without checking with Dr Niru

Long-Term Aftercare

For results to last as long as possible: 1. Daily SPF. UV breaks down both your collagen and the injected HA. 2. Steady skincare routine. Hydration, antioxidants, retinoids when appropriate. 3. Don't smoke. Smoking measurably shortens skin booster results. 4. Limit alcohol. Heavy alcohol intake is dehydrating and inflammatory. 5. Book maintenance every 4-6 months once your initial course is complete.

When to Contact Us

Most aftercare is uneventful. But contact Dr Niru immediately if you notice: - Severe pain that doesn't ease with paracetamol - Skin that looks white, mottled, or grey-blue - Sudden vision changes - Signs of infection (spreading redness, warmth, pus) - Severe asymmetric swelling

Routine concerns (small bruising, mild tenderness, slight asymmetry on day 1) are all normal and don't need urgent contact — but feel free to check in via WhatsApp if you're worried.

What NOT to Worry About

  • Tiny pinpoint bruises at injection sites (normal, fade in 5-7 days)
  • Mild tenderness for 1-2 days
  • Slight asymmetry day 1 (settles by day 7)
  • Bumps you can feel under the skin for 24-48 hours
  • Slight pink colouring at injection points

When to Book Your Next Session

Most skin booster courses are 2-3 sessions, 2-4 weeks apart. After that, maintenance every 4-6 months keeps results consistent. Dr Niru will recommend a personalised schedule at consultation.
